Paul Cowling, Managing Director RWE Innogy UK and Director of Offshore Wind RWE Innogy GmbH
Paul is a Chartered Engineer with broad experience of the energy industry including generation and retail, he has been employed within the Electricity Supply industry since gaining his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University.
Paul is the Director of Wind Energy Offshore for RWE Innogy GmbH and the Managing Director of the UK renewables business, RWE Innogy UK Ltd, which operates 22 hydroelectric power schemes, 28 onshore wind farms and three offshore wind farms, including the UK’s first major offshore wind farm, North Hoyle. In 2014 alone, RWE Innogy spent more than £700 million with UK suppliers and invested over £1million in local community projects.
Prior to returning to RWE Innogy as in February 2013 he held a number of senior management roles within the broader organisation including RWE npower Generation, RWE npower renewables, npower retail division, a three year assignment in Chicago, USA, Engineering, Supply Chain Management and Power plant Operations and Maintenance.
His most recent role was Director of Asset Development within the npower Generation business where he was accountable for all Asset Development and delivery into the operating business. This included Nuclear (Horizon Nuclear Power), Gas (Staythorpe and Pembroke CCGT’s) and Coal (Tilbury Biomass conversion) as well as major power plant refurbishment and upgrade projects and RWE UK’s Property Portfolio.
In his current position Paul takes the leadership role on all aspects of the Offshore Wind pan-European business from development through construction to operations and Maintenance. In addition he is fully accountable for the delivery of the Offshore Business transformation/optimisation programme as a result of the current economic climate and capital constraints.
