Geoff Snelson, Director of Strategy and Futures, Milton Keynes Council
Geoff has worked at Milton Keynes Council since 1998. His role embraces the promotion of Milton Keynes to external audiences and investors and major projects to secure the long-term success of the city – the fastest growing economy and place in the UK. This includes leading the MK Futures 2050 project that is delivering a new long-term vision and strategy for the city. Geoff is also leading the city’s bid to be European Capital of Culture 2023 and is the lead executive for the Fast Growth Cities group of UK local authorities.
Geoff has established the Milton Keynes Future City Programme as an internationally respected smart city collaboration with a strong focus on innovation and citizen engagement. Projects include the MK:Smart data hub, with the Open University and British Telecom, a city-wide internet of things network and low carbon and intelligent mobility – including wireless induction-charged electric bus routes and the UK Autodrive project that is developing autonomous transport services in the city. Geoff is a member of the Advisory Board of the World Broadband Alliance and was expert advisor on smart cities for the TCPA & UK Embassy Urbanisation Roadshow to China in November 2016.
