Cllr Sue Jeffrey, Leader, Redcar and Cleveland Council
Sue has over 25 years’ experience working at senior level in the public, private and third sectors at regional, local and national level lastly as the Executive Director of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly. Sue is a housing professional and until September 2015 was Chair of Tees Valley Housing Ltd and a Non Executive Board Member of the Thirteen Housing Group.
In 2009 Sue was elected for Labour to Redcar and Cleveland Council in a by-election. She became Leader of the Council following the May 2015 elections and was Chair of the Tees Valley Combined Authority last year, where she took a leading role negotiating the Tees Valley devolution deal. She has played a key part in developing plans after the closure of the SSI Steel works. She is currently seeking the Labour nomination to stand in the election for the first metro mayor of the Tees Valley, If selected Sue will be the first woman in the UK to be picked by the Labour Party to contest such an election.
