James Beal, Specialist, International Trade and Investment, Department for International Trade
James Beal is currently a Specialist with the Department for International Trade, having previously led the Government’s Offshore Wind Team since it was created in Sept 2013. The team was tasked to ensure the UK remains on course to deliver cost reduction whilst ensuring the UK offshore wind supply chain gain momentum in industrialising through delivering greater UK content into UK projects and using that experience and capability to export goods and services to the rest of the world.
This year has seen the UK produce its first Offshore Wind blades firstly from the new MHI Vestas facility on the Isle of Wight and more recently with Siemens producing their new blades from the new facility in Hull. As the East Anglia 1 offshore windfarm goes into construction it is predicted to be the first UK offshore wind development to deliver 50% content over its life.
James’s remit has now widen to encompass wider renewable opportunities to land new investment into the Uk and continue to see the UK offer expand and secure more overseas exports.
