Electric mobility continues to grow rapidly. In 2018, the global electric car fleet (EVs) exceeded 5.1 million almost doubling the number of new electric car registrations from the previous year. Global Electricity demand from EVs is now projected to reach almost 640 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2030 with light duty vehicles as the largest electricity consumer among all EVs. With an increasing number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) having declared intentions to electrify the models they offer, investment in battery manufacturing is growing fast in Europe. Utilities, charging point operators, charging hardware manufacturers and other stakeholders in the power sector are also increasing their investment in the roll-out of charging infrastructure.

With a definitive EV revolution on its way there are about 15,000 public charging points and 246,000 EVs registered in the UK (figures correct as of November 2019) and current UK government only recently pledged further major investment in Britain’s electric car charging network – with a vision that no electric vehicle (EV) owner should be more than 30 miles away from their nearest charge point. Highlighted in a recent industry projections the UK will have 7 million EVs in circulation requiring around 28,000 public charging points and capital expenditure of around £1.6 billion between 2020 and 2030. This represents a paradigm shift for both the transport and power sectors with the potential to advance the decarbonisation of both sectors. Looking ahead an estimated investment of £48 billion will be required to upgrade UK’s electricity grid to prepare Britain for the electric car revolution.

The EV Charging Infrastructure, AC, DC, V1G, V2G Stakeholder Focus Days invite you to join us on 8-9 June 2021 to engage with dealmakers and key stakeholders from public and private EV infrastructure segments that will drive the uptake, installation, product and technology development and wide roll-out of UK and Europe’s electric mobility infrastructure over the next few years.
